Juneau Gems - Bald Eagles
"Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:28-31
God's Word is fresh nourishment for our soul, no matter how many times we read it. I was meditating on this text one morning while in Juneau. Thank You, LORD, that you do not grow weary or tired! I am so grateful that I can fully depend on You, no matter what. And thank you that Your understanding is inscrutable; it is beyond our ability to grasp. I ask for You to increase my strength because I am weary.
LORD, I realize my part in gaining strength is to wait for you; to eagerly seek you and be bound together with You, Your hand holding my arm as my arm holds onto You. Even if I let go, You are still holding me securely! I want to mount up with wings like eagles! I want to run and not get tired, I want to walk and not become weary.
As I am entwined with You, LORD, You do not get weary or tired. I can walk and run because of Your strength. But how does that work?
As I pondered this question, I read in Charles Stanley's In Touch monthly devotion that "God did not make our human bodies, minds, or spirits to fly solo. He created us to soar on His strength." So how do I soar through the day on my Father's strength?
An hour later, I was travelling on the Glacier Highway in Juneau, Alaska. Bald eagles roost on the streetlights there. As I watched one begin to fly, I noticed that he did not frantically flap his wings to gain altitude or distance; he simply spread out those beautiful wings, trusting that the wind current would carry him along. My walk with the LORD throughout the day is best when I choose to stretch out my wings and trust that He will carry me along, where He leads. Thank You my Father, for teaching me Your Word with such a beautiful visible example!
